Joe Biden newest member of Alt-Right?

The full text from a speech to the Latino and Asian Democrats club in Iowa, August 9:

“And another thing we should do is we should challenge these students. Advance placement programs in these schools.  We have this notion that somehow if you’re poor, you cannot do it.  Poor kids are just as bright and talented as white kids. [scattered applause].  Wealthy kids, black kids.” [Emphasis added.]

The media across the spectrum from Fox News to NBC News has labeled it another Biden gaffe.  From NBC:

Though Biden’s remarks were greeted with applause in the room, President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign quickly pounced on the gaffe, tweeting out video of the speech.“Yikes…have fun mitigating that one,” Andrew Clark, the campaign’s rapid response director, tweeted.

The NY Post, labeled it “Latest Biden blunder: “Poor kids” just as bright as “white kids”.

“Gaffe prone presidential hopeful Joe Biden put his foot in his mouth during an Iowa campaign stop… Biden committed the stunning blunder at a campaign stop… in Des Moines.”

Biden is getting ripped from both the left and the right. At conservative blog American Thinker, Monica Showalter writes,

Joe Biden’s gaffethon goes into overdrive

equating ‘bright’ with ‘white’ is pretty racist, too. What is he, a white supremacist? It unwittingly calls attention to the Democratic Party’s obsessive bean counting on race, something that dates back to its days of supporting the Ku Klux Klan and opposing desegregation. Smart move, Joe. What’s that about being white and bright again?

Stu at the Glenn Beck radio show:

“Had this been a Republican who said this, it would be the end of his career.  [If Trump had said this]… absolute proof of his white supremacy.”

But the other side of the spectrum:

Damn it, Joe! Just say one sentence without shooting yourself in the foot!  Joe Biden says ‘poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids’ on the campaign trail.
Biden gaffe again, this time campaign 2022.
Less than 12 hours before polls open on Tuesday, President Joe Biden traveled to Maryland to make one final pitch to encourage voters to choose Wes Moore for governor.“This guy’s the real,” Biden said Monday amongst a boisterous crowd of about 1,700 at Bowie State University, the state’s oldest HBCU in Prince George’s County. “Wes is a leader who will build Maryland and leave no one behind and I believe that.”Additionally:If Democrats win those four statewide positions, it would represent diversity Maryland has never seen amongst its top elected officials, with no white men.
This article and others reporting on the Biden visit failed to mention another one of his remarks.

“Biden to the crowed at an HBCU:  You’re just as smart, you’re just as bright, you’re just as good as any college in America.”
Note – HBCU stands for Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
This new Biden gaffe comes two weeks after he claimed to have attended an HBCU in Dover, Delaware as a college student.
From Reuters, Nov. 3, Fact Check,
US President Joe Biden did not claim that he attended Delaware State University (DSU), which is among the country’s top Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), at a rally in Florida ahead of the midterm elections. The president said he got his “first start” at the university, a statement he also made previously, referring to the support he received from the university when he announced his bid for the Senate on the DSU campus in 1972.
One Twitter user snarked:
Most people don’t know this but Biden is actually the president of an HBCU. And he’s a professor there too. And a student. And his son would have gone there had he not died in Vietnam. — Kutscene1
